Haitian Americans United, Inc. (“H.A.U.”), the Association of Haitian Women, Inc. (“AFAB”) and their partner organizations continue to work actively with multiple stakeholders in Haiti and in New England to address the urgent needs of the victims of the 7.2 magnitude earthquake that shook Haiti on Saturday, August 14, 2021. As of August 20, 2021, the latest reports indicate that there are more than 2,000 casualties, over 1.2 million people impacted (including 540,000 children), and 140,000 homes destroyed.

Since the last meeting on Monday, August 16th, HAU, AFAB, and their partners created the 2021 Mass Haiti Relief Task Force to collect information from organizations on the ground, channel emergency cash assistance, and ship emergency items – medical supplies, tents, toiletries, repair kits, food and water. (List attached).

The community effort will rely on everyone’s solidarity in the upcoming weeks as the situation on the ground continues to deteriorate.

A second emergency briefing will be held on Tuesday August 24, 2021 to provide updates on the two phases outlined in the first meeting.

Zoom Link:

  • Phase 1: provide immediate financial assistance to grassroots entities in affected areas

  • Phase 2: coordinate collection drives for emergency supplies (See attached flyers)

We urge the general public to donate to the 2021 Mass Haiti Relief Task Force by:

  1. Making an online contribution at www.hauinc.org/helphaiti,

  2. Mail checks to: HAU P.O. Box 260440, Mattapan, MA 02126 (memo: Haiti 2021 Earthquake), or
